Our Treatments

Two Approaches to Extending Tool Life

Solvenite thermal diffusion treatment bath operation at PROLONG facility

Core Treatment

Solvenite

Thermal diffusion process performed under 1000°F for a minimum of four hours. The liquid bath reaches every surface, internal water lines included. Welds like normal steel afterward, with no white layer to chip or flake.

.015–.020″ case depth  ·  under 1000°F  ·  4+ hours  ·  zero size change

Premium Duplex

MaxxShot

Solvenite deep diffusion base plus a hard multilayer PVD vacuum coating of tungsten, chromium, and titanium. The dual-layer approach armors gate areas, washout zones, and critical inserts where surface-only coatings fail.

3,500mv hardness  ·  5–8 microns per side  ·  10× gate insert life

The Prolong Difference

Why Die Casters Choose Us Over Nitriding and PVD

No Brittle White Layer

Solvenite creates homogeneous diffusion without the compound zone that nitriding produces. The diffused layer holds up under die casting thermal cycles without the chipping or flaking that nitrided tools eventually develop.

Reaches Every Surface

Our liquid thermal bath diffuses into every surface, including internal water lines and blind holes that line-of-sight PVD coatings cannot reach.

Welds Like Normal Steel

Treated tooling can be welded, repaired, and reworked in your tool room without special procedures. Nitrided tools cannot be welded.

Restores Mid-Life Tooling

Solvenite is not only for new tools. The process removes existing solder, clears calcium-clogged waterlines, and strengthens previous welds.

What Die Casters Say About Our Treatments

Lee Kittle  ·  Muskegon Die Casting

“Heat check historically filed at 62mm bore is now non-existent at 70K shots. Previously required filing between 2,500–5,000 shots. Huge cost savings in rework, repairs, and uptime.”

Matt Brown  ·  The Port City Group

“Whatever improvements you make to die life, treat your inserts with Solvenite. The results will amaze you.”

Dan Norton  ·  Anderton Casting

“Using Solvenite on VascoMax 300 Steel with Silafont 36. Untreated dies lasted 15K shots; now achieving 80K–100K shots. Ordered 7 dies with 3 more planned, all with Solvenite.”

Vern Moss  ·  Minnesota Die Caster

“MaXXshot core reached 32,350 shots with minimal solder buildup. Light polish performed for first time. Performs much better than other tested coatings.”
